Dr. Folgar is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. His work has been nationally recognized with research awards from the Retina Society, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.

Dr. Folgar is also fluent in Spanish and French. He currently sees patients in Mount Pleasant, Summerville, West Ashley, and Walterboro.

    Dr. Folgar received his Medical degree and completed his ophthalmology residency at New York University and the Manhattan Eye Ear & Throat Hospital. He completed a Vitreoretinal Surgery Fellowship at the Duke University Eye Center. In addition, he completed a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with the world-renowned experts at Duke University.
  • Why did you choose to specialize in retinal disease?
    The health of the retina and associated disease has a direct impact on our quality of life. Preventing, managing and preserving eyesight is an area of study that is constantly evolving. I find this to be very exciting to me as a provider of retina care, as new research can improve and enhance the care I provide to my patients today and in the future.
