REGULAR PRE-VISIT EDUCATION
We look forward to seeing you at your upcoming visit with Dr. Kerry Solomon. If you and the doctor agree that cataract surgery is the next step, we will be discussing a lot of information with you at this upcoming consultation. Cataract surgery is a once in a lifetime procedure, so please take some time to look over your options to determine which surgery outcome is best for you.
Post-cataract surgery outcome considerations
You will want to consider what you do every day. Think about your lifestyle, any hobbies you enjoy, or sports you play.
- Do you want to be less dependent on glasses? (Advanced Vision)
- Do you mind wearing glasses some of the time? (Custom Vision)
- Are you willing to wear glasses all of the time? (Basic Vision)
Additional Vision Outcomes – Less dependence on glasses
We encourage you to strongly consider the below options if you have any desire to reduce your dependency on glasses or contacts. These premium lens options are available to most patients. Dr. Solomon will evaluate your eyes and discuss the options that are best for you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
- Custom Vision – Less dependence on glasses for distance vision. Patients will be dependent on reading glasses for near/intermediate vision. Elective cost per eye to the patient is $2,995.00 ($125 per month*)
- Advanced Vision – Less dependence on glasses for reading, intermediate, and distance vision. Although we cannot guarantee you will not need glasses for all activities, the majority of patients enjoy most of their activities without glasses. Elective cost per eye to the patient is $4,295.00 ($179 per month*)
- The Light Adjustable Lens – With the Light Adjustable Lens, you have the unique opportunity to adjust and preview your vision until it meets your personal vision desires and lifestyle requirements. This optimization is done in the office after cataract surgery through a series of light treatment procedures performed by Dr. Solomon. This procedure is ideal for patients who have had previous laser or corneal surgery. Elective cost per eye to the patient is $4,465.00 ($186 per month*)
Is cataract surgery covered by insurance?
Patients often ask if cataract surgery is covered by insurance. The answer is yes, though you may be responsible for copays, coinsurance, or deductibles based on your insurance plan.
Cataract surgery has two parts: the medically necessary portion (Basic Vision) and the elective portion (Custom and Advanced Vision).
Removing your cataract and placing a Basic lens is the medically necessary part, is covered by insurance and you will require glasses for near, intermediate and distance tasks. This surgery is called “Basic Vision”. If you elect to move forward with a Custom or Advanced Vision procedure, your insurance will only cover the medically necessary portion of the procedure.
Advanced Vision Testing (AVT)
Dr. Solomon recommends all patients have Advanced Vision testing (AVT). These additional tests provide Dr. Solomon with information about the general health of your eye and is also required if you would like to consider Custom, Advanced vision or the Light Adjustable lens options. AVT is not covered by insurance and costs $225.00.
**If you choose to proceed with Custom Vision, Advanced Vision or the Light Adjustable Lens, the cost of AVT is INCLUDED in the Vision option you choose.
